How to avoid drinking too much in a Party

You can enjoy a festive drink this season without committing diet sabotage, but take care – if you’re not precise when you pour your drink, it may pack far more calories than you’d planned. Many people consider one cocktail to be a glassful, regardless of how many ounces that glass contains.

Dietitians and government sources, on the other hand, use standard sizes to estimate calorie counts – so one woman’s single drink may be equivalent of two or three standard size ones. This means filling your glass to the brim can add hundreds of calories. In weight-loss terms: you’d have to trek for an hour on the treadmill to kiss those extra ounces of Margarita goodbye. So decide how many calories you’re willing to spend on a cocktail and how much that means you can have. Then, if a friend pours your drink, ask her to stop at that target amount like half a glass.

risk of diabetic driver

If you have diabetes and you drive, the main risk is experiencing hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) on the road, which can make you pass out and can lead to an accident. To avoid hypoglycemia, here are some reminders:
  • Always carry sweet food or drink and a carbohydrate snack in your car.
  • Don’t drive for more than two hours without taking a snack.
  • Check your blood glucose before and during your trip.
If hypoglycemia occurs, take these steps:
  • Pull over and stop the car.
  • Immediately take in something sugary and follow it up with a longer-acting carbohydrate, like a biscuit.
  • Do not restart the car until you have treated your hypoglycemia and feel absolutely normal. Studies show that cognitive functions does not return fully until after 40 minutes.

Is Acupuncture a Trick or Treatment?

Basically, acupuncture has been part of traditional Chinese medicine more than 2,500 years ago and it’s usually used alongside herbal medicine. This is done by putting needles on the meridian points in order to stimulate the body and regulate health. There are no extra chemicals, no extra medicine, only the needles to stimulate the body. There are some particular points for a particular problem, so it’s to stimulate the body, and let the body regulate or balance itself.

This practice relies on the integrated points within the body, both internal and external, and their interactions. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), “Acupuncture has been proven effective in relieving postoperative pain, nausea during pregnancy, nausea and vomiting resulting from chemotherapy, and dental pain with extremely low side effects. It can also alleviate anxiety, panic disorders, and insomnia.” In addition, this is generally used for pain management and there are studies that are looking into link between acupuncture and infertility.
